If
you want to beat the 40 footers in comfort you can't go
past the new T1150/Stomp38.
This
is a serious attempt by Thompson International to get people
back into affordable boats that is both exciting and fun
to sail with accommodation for the whole family.
Sailing controls and deck layout is very simple with a large
cockpit sporting a raised coaming for the mainsheet and
controls to pass through.
The bow prod is articulating and extending with all controls
operating from the cockpit. This boat has been setup for
easy short handed sailing.
It is fast and powerful with a 100% ballast ratio to help
drive it upwind at speed. The hull shape is very well balanced
like all Thompson Designed boats and very easy to steer
in all conditions.
Below decks there is full headroom with an enclosed head,
full galley with cooler or fridge/freezer and chart table.
The interior is clear coated Kevlar with cabin and accommodation
fitout painted white semi-gloss.
The construction is highly specified with Kevlar skins over
foam core using epoxy resins. The keel is high tensile steel
with lead bulb attached and the rudder is full carbon with
a carbon fiber shaft.
The pedigree of this design has been developed from the T35 (37ft) racing in the USA. This boat has swept all before it in
all its racing and continues to be a great performer and
yet retains the traditional Thompson ease of sailing characteristics.
This is an excellent boat for offshore regattas or harbour
racing with the bonus of being able to slide away
for a weekends fast cruising with a few friends.
If you are looking for a fast and affordable boat capable
of beating the 40 footers around the course, you cant
go past the Thompson T1150/Stomp38.
Design
The T1150/Stomp38 is designed as a one design with the added
advantage of being a superb PHRF (=-6) racer capable of
beating the 40 footers around the course.
The designers have utilises the latest VPP software to help
create a boat that is very fast and stable upwind yet exhilarating
downwind.
It features wide and comfortable side decks and a large
cockpit, all of the sailing controls are simple and easy
to use.
The rig features a topmast or optional twin topmast backstay
.
Construction
The T1150/Stomp38 is constructed using Kevlar/Carbon skins,
a foam core and epoxy resins. Carbon fiber is used for additional
stiffening where appropriate.
The keel is manufactures from high tenislie steel and comes
with the option of a fixed or lifting keel version.
The rudder is constructed
using carbon fiber stiffening and shaft.
Specification Rig The mast is carbon fiber with an aluminium
option for the budget conscious. Rigging is rod with aluminium
spreaders and boom.
The bow pod is articulating and carbon fiber.
Deck Fitout Full Harken fitout with winch
option.
Sails Mainsail, light and medium jib with
a heavy air option.
Spinnakers are asymmetric with two masthead and one fractional.
Trailer and launching The boat can be trailer
launched using the custom keel winch or dry sailed with
the central lifting hook.
